Risk & reputation management

Working with young people carries with it a weighty duty of care to safeguard their wellbeing. Clearly the consequences of getting this wrong are significant. What greater responsibility is there than looking after other people’s children? PHAROS RESPONSE understands the unique challenges and risks involved when operating with young people, whether primary age or teens.

Our Experience

Our significant experience in this sector means we are proud to say we have contributed heavily to the design and implementation of the National Citizen Service (NCS) safety, risk and incident management system and also supported the National Youth Agency’s (NYA) risk management guidance for organisations that work with young people. Our clients cover a broad range of charities, CICs and companies across community, sport, activity, local and national youth groups, programmes and initiatives.

Risk Assessment Training

This one-day course is designed for managers and other colleagues within youth work providers who are responsible for writing risk assessments, or reviewing those of others.  The course is tailored to client’s needs to make it highly specific to the youth work organisation’s own programmes (incorporating your own risk assessment templates) and uses practical exercises and scenario-based activities to bring the theory to life. It will also cover the different types of risk assessments and the common issues to avoid.  The training will help increase the quality of risk assessments, help make programmes safer for those involved and further demonstrate how an employer ensures the competence of individuals responsible for risk assessment. The training includes a free consultation in advance of the training to discuss the different risk assessment templates used. All learners receive a course completion certificate.

Competent H&S Advisor

It is a legal requirement for employers to have access to competent H&S advice but employing a dedicated H&S Manager will be expensive. We can sign-off your H&S policies, provide ad-hoc H&S advice and complete H&S audits through our low-cost annual retainers to help ensure you remain fully compliant.

Prepare

How we help to prepare for critical or complex incidents:
  • - Introduction to What We Offer
  • - Critical Incident Management Training Workshop for Senior Managers
  • - Full Crisis Simulation Exercise
  • - Media Spokesperson Training

What We Offer

Once you have a critical incident management plan in place, it is highly recommended that this plan is tested before it is required for a real incident. Pharos provides a training workshop for crisis teams who are less confident with their crisis plan, or a full crisis simulation exercise to properly test those who are. Any crisis plan should cover the operational and communications response. This includes identifying a number of nominated spokespeople to help ensure at least one person is always available when needed to speak to the press. Of course, all nominated spokespeople should be trained and regularly refreshed specifically on facing the media in a crisis situation.

Critical Incident Management Training Workshop for Senior Managers

Full-day training workshop for your crisis response team. Includes case study analysis, crisis response model and advice plus a bespoke table-top simulation exercise which includes actors playing the role of journalists and other key stakeholders.
