Who We Help
Our clients are usually considered ‘higher risk’ by the nature of what they do, such as delivering adventurous activities or operating in challenging environments, by the nature of who they work with, such as children, the elderly or vulnerable adults or VIPs, or quite frequently a combination of both.
One thing our clients all have in common is a commitment to keep their staff and customers safe and to do all that is possible to assist in the unlikely event that the very worst happens.
Risk, Reputation and Crisis Management for the Education Sector
PHAROS RESPONSE has considerable knowledge and experience of the education sector and provides tailored risk and crisis management services specifically so suit independent, maintained and international schools, academies and multi academy trusts (MATs), as well as nurseries, colleges and universities.
Rest assured that when it comes to site security, educational visit safety and incident management issues there’s unlikely to be any organisation with more experience within the education sector. We are proud to be regular speakers at educational conferences, an organisational member of Learning Outside the Classroom, advisors on risk and reputation management for ISBA (Independent Schools’ Bursars Association) schools, a partner to the School Travel Forum and we have two staff members who are Advisors for the Outdoor Education Advisers’ Panel.
People may be surprised to know that the majority of incident management support we provide to schools are not trip or visit related. More often, critical incidents involve day-to-day school life, such as staff safeguarding breaches, serious incidents as a result of mental health issues or high profile parental or student complaints. However, when it comes to educational visits, there isn’t much that can surprise us anymore. All this crisis management experience helps us to ensure school policies and procedures are safer, our educational visits advice is sharper and our training is more realistic and effective.
Our risk, reputation and crisis management services for the education sector differs to our other sectors in response to their specific needs covering everything from site security audits and lockdown training to EVC training and invaluable educational visits advice.

Risk, Reputation and Crisis Management for the UK Adventure Sector
We love all things adventure, personally and professionally. Adventure plays a big part in the foundations of Pharos, so we recognise the huge value that an adventure can have on people of all ages, but especially young people. Our team has a great deal of experience in the outdoors at home and abroad, on water, high above and below ground, in the mountains, desert and jungle. We know it is a highly regulated and safe sector, but we also know that critical incidents do happen.
Our clients in this sector span a broad range including UK adventure activity providers such as climbing walls, outdoor centres, watersports centres and charity event organisers, to name just a few.
Due to all adventure activities carrying a higher risk profile, either due to the activity itself, the location of the activity, the people doing it or a combination of all three, our experience and services are very well suited.
Services tailored specifically to suit the UK adventure sector include risk and safety management consultancy, crisis plans, crisis management training, crisis communications training, safeguarding training, off-site safety management training, risk assessment training, crisis simulation exercises and of course our popular 24/7 critical incident response service.

Risk, Reputation and Crisis Management for the Travel Sector
The majority of the Pharos team have had the wanderlust at some point and between us, we can tick off most countries in the world. Sadly, we can also claim to have supported a vast number of travel related critical incidents and crises in all corners of the world. From densely populated tourist traps and city centres to some of the most remote places on earth, up a mountain, in a jungle or a desert. Overturned coaches, fatalities and life-changing injuries from drownings, balcony falls, cycle and other road traffic crashes, serious sexual assaults, missing people, violent attacks, robbings at gunpoint… the list of travel crises continues.
The risk of incidents can be greater in unfamiliar environments and they are always harder to manage from afar. Our experience helps us to assist clients to avoid the common bear traps of travel risk management and also enables us to be an invaluable addition to their team in responding to any critical incidents and crises overseas.
We support a very wide range of organisations with different degrees of travel risk, such as specialist and niche travel operators, expedition, ski and gap year companies, tour operators, school trip providers, international development organisations and NGOs.
We have developed risk management services to suit the travel sector specifically, including travel risk management, travel health and safety consultancy, travel safety guidance, travel crisis management, crisis communications, travel scenario based crisis simulation exercises, and invaluable for the travel sector, the Pharos 24/7 critical incident response service.

Safety and Incident Support for Gap Year and Independent Travellers
Gap year or independent travel at a young age is an incredible life experience full of adventure. For family members left at home, it can be stressful seeing their ‘children’ head off to ‘find themselves’ so far away from home.
If they do fall victim to a classic gap year blunder, they often won’t want to admit this to parents at the time. Even if they did, parents may not always be best placed to provide much helpful or practical assistance. In the unlikely event that they are involved in a more serious incident then both the traveller and parents will be glad to have the additional resources and expertise to provide help.
Thanks to TravelAid, powered by Pharos Response, our team of travel, safety and security specialists who are experienced in dealing with a very wide range of travel incidents will be available at the end of a phone 24/7. They will always remain impartial and non-judgemental while providing advice based on experience. Not only are they always available to answer the phone 24/7, they are well placed to provide assistance with travel safety or security advice, but perhaps most importantly, the young traveller is more likely to take their advice than if mum or dad had suggested it!
